Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Desktop app and PWA.
The Desktop app offers native OS integration, system proxy support, local file system access for importing/exporting collections, and works fully offline. The PWA provides nearly the same feature set through the browser but requires an internet connection for initial load and lacks system-level integrations like custom protocol handlers.
Yes! Both versions use the same cloud sync engine. Your workspaces, collections, environments, and history are synced in real-time across all devices. Simply sign in to your account on both platforms.
Absolutely. Many developers use the Desktop app for their primary workstation and the PWA on secondary devices. Your data stays in sync across both. Note that concurrent editing of the same request is handled with conflict resolution.
No. APEX is fully open-source and does not collect any telemetry or usage data. The Desktop app runs entirely locally. Optional crash reporting can be enabled in settings, but it's off by default.
The Desktop app includes built-in auto-updates. You'll be notified when a new version is available, and updates are applied automatically. You can also check for updates manually in Settings → About → Check for Updates.
Yes. In addition to the installer (.exe), we provide a portable ZIP that doesn't require installation. Simply extract it to any folder and run apex.exe. Your data is stored in the same folder, making it perfect for USB drives.
Installing as a PWA gives you a dedicated app window without browser UI, offline caching for faster loading, push notifications for collaboration updates, and a more app-like experience. It uses the same codebase as the web version.
